a movement must be public.
leadership is over-rated. its the first follower that transforms the lone nut into a leader.

for the first few days, walking up the one flight of stairs to my floor proved to be the most horrible task when negotiating my new space. it wasn’t so much the walking ‘up’ the stairs than the 60 or so seconds of stuffy airlessness endured by being ‘in’ the stair room (i can’t think of the word you’d use here). you can see the sea and your footsteps sound the soft metallic dud of a seafaring thing. there is sunlight but no air. the windows don’t open. there’s a laundry room adjacent to the entrance to my corridor (itself segregated by a door, presumably to stop the flow of fire or the spread of sound). you can smell laundry and because the window’s do not open, you can also feel the warmth of the machines. i found that when i walked up those stairs any warmth i could feel (any slight headache from being too hot) i put down to the fact that the windows wouldn’t open. there are small rubber dots on each metal stair to stop you from slipping. when the soap, lather and bubbles flow from the laundry room you will not slip on the stairs. there are three floors altogether. at least i think there are only three. in fact now i think about it there are two. i am the first, a girl who sold me a bike is on the second. beyond that, i have only just started to wonder what may be on the roof. on each corridor there are about ten rooms. i will check this tomorrow. it is my aim to construct a complete description of this place. i am fairly sure the roof is flat. it often rains here. it would be good to find a small patch of land to garden. we are near approaching september. peas, carrots, onions and swede could be sewn now. there is plenty of water for irrigation. there are plenty of corners left to be explored.
the ndsm wharf, n. amsterdam.
up until the 1980s this was a busy wharf with a lot of shipping through traffic. in the 1980s shipping ports in rotterdam and somewhere else became more established and their better location meant that the NDSM wharf slowed down, eventually shedding 15,000 jobs. now its several large warehouses are home to an artistic ‘community’ (or rather, what i saw: fragmented workstations, workshops and projects, but will comment more on that when i’ve seen a bit more).
on sunday there was a big flea market there.
